Arethusa Falls is a magnificent, 160-foot, cascading waterfall located inside Crawford Notch State Park in Hart's Location, New Hampshire. The waterfall is considered to be New Hampshire's tallest single-drop waterfall. Originally discovered by Edward Tuckerman in 1875, there has been some debate about the actual height of the falls, with some estimates as high as 200 feet and as low as 140. The falls are named after the Greek nymph Arethusa, who is known for turning into a beautiful freshwater fountain. Being one of the most popular waterfalls in the White Mountains, this waterfall is best visited during weekdays to avoid crowding. During the hike to Arethusa Falls, you can also take the Bemis Brook side trail to see Fawn Pool, Coliseum Falls, and Bemis Falls.
