Hickory Nut Falls is a 404-foot cascading waterfall inside Chimney Rock State Park in North Carolina. It is one of the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River and well worth the 0.9-mile hike to reach it. You may also recognize it from the 1992 film "The Last of the Mohicans," where it was featured prominently at the end of the movie. Surprisingly, swimming is allowed here, as a park ranger is present throughout the day to keep watch.
