Logging Road Falls is a 65-foot cascading waterfall deep in the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina. This is the final of four waterfalls that can be seen during a 3-mile round-trip hike from the Log Hollow and Discovery Falls Trailhead off of Forest Road 5043, also known as Log Hollow Road. The others are Discovery Falls, Log Hollow Falls, and Upper Log Hollow Falls. This waterfall tends to be somewhat obscured by foliage, so the best views are likely during fall or winter. If you wish to see just Logging Road Falls, it's about 1 mile there and 1 mile back. Below are directions for the full hike to all four waterfalls.
Hike Start/Discovery Falls
To get to the parking area, you will need to traverse a gravel road (Forest Road 475b). I would recommend a vehicle with all-wheel or four-wheel drive, but any regular vehicle should be able to make driving cautiously. From the parking area, go around the gate to take FR 5043. About 0.2 miles in you'll encounter a wooden bridge. Take the trail on the right just before the bridge and hike another 0.2 miles. This part of the hike may be strenuous. The 75-foot Discovery Falls will eventually come into view.
Log Hollow Falls
From the bridge mentioned above, continue along FR 5043 for about 0.3 miles until you encounter a second bridge. Directly after this bridge, take the trail on the right and hike a few yards to see the 30-foot Log Hollow Falls.
Upper Log Hollow Falls
From Log Hollow Falls, continue up the trail (it should be to your left when approaching Log Hollow Falls) for another 0.1 miles. Eventually you'll encounter the 20-foot Upper Log Hollow Falls. You may see other cascades along the way. These are not it. You will know when you see it. Photographing this waterfall may be difficult, as you will be very close and there is not much room to back up. You won't be able to see the top portion from the base.
Logging Road Falls
From the second bridge, continue along FR 5043. It eventually becomes Seniard Ridge Trail. You may not hear water for a little bit and question if you're going the right way. You are. After 0.5 miles, you'll encounter Logging Road Falls on your right, which is at least 65 feet in height. From there, hike 1 mile along FR 5043 back to the parking area.
