Chestnut Cove Branch Falls

Chestnut Cove Branch Falls is a spectacular, 30-foot, sliding cascade near Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina. Accessing the trailhead requires traversing a 3-mile stretch of unpaved road. AWD and some degree of clearance is recommended. The trailhead is marked by a blue-blazed sign that says "N. Harper Creek Trail. 266." This is the same trailhead for seeing North Harper Creek Falls. There is a small roadside grave space for parking that will fit 3-4 vehicles. From the trailhead, the trail descends for nearly the entire time, so be prepared to ascend on the way back. At roughly 0.8 miles in, you'll cross the creek above North Harper Creek Falls. This spot is photo-worthy itself and is a great place for a picnic or sunbathing. Shortly after crossing the creek, a sharp switchback leads to a final descent towards that waterfall. However, continuing 0.1 miles further along the same trail will take you to Chestnut Cove Branch Falls. This spot is arguably even sunnier, and the base is a great spot for swimming!
