Rainbow Falls, or "Waianuenue" (rainbow water), in Hawaiian, is located is located inside Wailuku River State Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. The falls tumble 80 feet over an ancient lava cave along the Wailuku River. According to Hawaiian mythology, this cave is said to be the home of Hina, the goddess of the moon and mother of the legendary god Maui. Rainbow Falls derives its name from the fact that in the morning when lighting conditions are right, rainbows can be seen in its mist.
This waterfall is easily accessible via short walk from the parking area, which also has restrooms. After checking out Rainbow Falls, visitors can also check out the Boiling Pots, Pe'epe'e Falls, and Wai'ale Falls just down the road.
