Grotto Falls is a 25-foot single-drop waterfall whose trailhead is located right along the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Out of its neighbors Rainbow Falls and Baskins Falls, Grotto Falls is the shortest and least technical trail. However, there is still a lot of elevation gain.
As you approach the waterfall, you'll see a lower cascade that's about 10 feet tall. Keep going. You're almost there! Once you arrive you'll quickly realize how Grotto Falls got its name. You can stand directly behind the waterfall. If you bring a friend, there's a large rock that's perfect for taking photos from. It's worth noting that this trail is very popular, and parking fills up fast, so go early or have a backup plan.
Note: Great Smoky Mountains National Park requires a parking pass when parking within the park boundaries for more than 15 minutes. A daily pass can be obtained for $5 or a weekly pass for $15 here. Restrooms are available at this trailhead.
