Spruce Flats Falls is a lovely 60-foot cascade in Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Townsend, Tennessee. From the trailhead, the 1.8-mile hike is easy to follow and has appropriate signage to make sure you're going the right way. While the trail is straight-forward, it does get steep at times, and you will be traversing roots and rocks throughout the journey. Nonetheless, the path will take you through an enchanting forest. This journey is just as great as the destination, and the destination is pretty spectacular.
Additionally, you can also see Lower Spruce Flats Falls, which drops about 15 feet, by traveling further south along Upper Tremont Road until you reach Spruce Flats Branch. This waterfall is visible directly from the road, but you can pull over to get out and get closer.
Note: Great Smoky Mountains National Park requires a parking pass when parking within the park boundaries for more than 15 minutes. A daily pass can be obtained for $5 or a weekly pass for $15 here. Getting to this trailhead also requires traveling on an unpaved road.
