Nestled inside DuPont State Recreational Forest is the majestic High Falls, a 150-foot, cascading waterfall just an easy half-mile trek from the High Falls parking area.
DuPont State Forest has a fascinating history. In the year 2000, North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt used his council's power of eminent domain to prevent a real estate development from being established in the middle of the forest, protecting this beautiful, natural gem. The state of North Carolina then acquired the land and has since protected it. Now this waterfall, along with others in the area, have helped to make the park a major natural attraction.
For another stunning overlook view of this waterfall from the top side, hikers can make their way to the beautiful covered bridge. Other waterfalls in the park include Triple Falls, Hooker Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Grassy Creek Falls. The area is especially beautiful during the fall from late October to early November.
