Cullasaja Falls (cool-uh-SAY-juh) is an impressive, 250-foot, roadside, cascading waterfall near Highlands, North Carolina in the Nantahala National Forest that runs along the Cullasaja River in the Cullasaja Gorge. It's pretty "Cull." Although massive, this waterfall can only partially be seen from the road. For the full experience, a strenuous unofficial scramble trail can be accessed from the road. Making it to the base provides a much better view. The name "cullasaja" comes from the Cheroke word for "honey locust place," which references trees in the area whose pods were used to make sweetener.
