Lake Fork Falls is the unofficial name for this relatively unknown waterfall that is seen during the hike to Mystic Falls, another hidden gem. My best estimates and research put this waterfall at roughly 145 feet. It is located in the small town of Ames, Colorado just outside Telluride.
Reaching Lake Fork Falls requires either an off-road capable vehicle or a short 0.4-mile hike from the Ames Hydroelectric Generating Plant up a bumpy dirt road that leads to the Mystic Falls trailhead. From the plant, follow the road immediately on the left, passing a green cabin on the left and then a brown cabin on the right. You will come to a fork. Follow the main road right. You will then come to another fork. Go right again. In roughly 0.1 miles from the fork, you will arrive at the Mystic Falls trailhead and parking area. Lake Fork Falls is visible from here. To get a closer view, follow the trail for a bit at the back left (south) of the lot when facing the falls.
