Blackwater Falls is West Virginia's largest waterfall, cascading a total of 57 feet down the Blackwater River inside Blackwater Falls State Park. The water is often seen tinted by tannic acid, a natural byproduct of the hemlock and red spruce trees in the Alleghany Mountains. A short quarter-mile hike will take visitors to the observation deck for the best view of the falls. Along with a gift shop and restrooms, visitors can also check out Elakala Falls and many other areas in the park. For a park map, click here.
